Asphalte was created in 1993 by Jérôme Waucheul and Marie-Christine Marticorena, two local citizens whose children attended “Ecole Berthelot”.
After noticing the hardships that some immigrant parents went through, Jérôme and Marie-Christine created a small association aiming to create a link between parents, students, and school administrations.
However, Asphalte has always gone beyond the framework of its original objectives, by adopting an approach centered around emancipation and social assistance.
The association reached new heights in 2008, when it was officially recognized as a social center by the CAF, and thus became the first and only social center in the town of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges.
